This series is designed to give viewers a basic understanding of all elemental aspects of shop safety. Each program begins with safety concerns including proper attire, eye and ear protection, proper footwear, and more. The programs then move to the correct way to use various hand tools found in each location, safety concerns that are particular to each shop environment, and the proper procedures to follow should an accident occur.

Safety First: Electrical Safety
Gives a basic explanation of electricity, what it is and how it affects us. Also covers the color codingof wire and what each color means, the role of circuits and circuit breakers, and fuses and how to replace them. Examines insulation and how it works, the various hand tools used in electrical work, and what gauge wire to use in certain applications. Covers preventing electrical shock and how to treat a person who has received an electrical shock. 30-minute video.

Safety First: Woodworking Safety
Covers the most common hand tools and their proper applications. The importance of a clean working environment, preventive maintenance on machinery, and using the correct tool for each job is covered in detail. Also covered are how to check power cords for defects, sharpening and replacing saw blades, and correct body position when using equipment. Safety First: Electrical SafetyGives a basic explanation of electricity, what it is and how it affects us. Safety First: Welding Shop Safety
Specific protective gear for welders is examined in detail. The necessity of having a good attitude and concentrating on the task you are performing are also discussed. Shows the proper way to store tanks, hoses, gauges, and cutting/brazing torches. Also covers the basics of testing lines for leaks, attaching gauges to tanks, and adjusting pressure settings to proper levels. Covers a variety of welding processes including MIG, TIG, and oxyacetylene. The most common concerns of welders are discussed including proper grounding of the machine and the work piece, correct applications of commercial gases, and maintaining weld tips. 30 minute video.
