As the successor of the time-honored Dictionary of Occupational Titles, the nationally recognized O*NETtm database is quickly becoming America’s primary source of career information. Like the DOT, it provides a common language for defining and describing occupations, and its flexible design easily captures today’s rapidly changing job requirements.

Much more than simply a book on a disc, this robust CD-ROM offers students powerful career assessment and research tools supported by more than 1,100 detailed job descriptions from the current O*NETtm database. A user-friendly interface makes the program easy to navigate, and 200 minutes of video, 20 minutes of audio narration, and plenty of graphics help keep it lively.

By exploring the program’s three sections—Career Overview, My Careers, and View All Careers—students can develop a deep understanding of the business world while gaining insights into occupations that best suit their preferences.

In Career Overview, students can examine the O*NETtm 3.1 database career clusters, which separate occupations into logical groupings. Text, audio narration, and colorful graphics make this a fascinating introduction to the incredibly diverse world of work.

In My Careers, students can develop a deeper sense of their employment possibilities by taking a two-tier interactive assessment in which they prioritize their work values and set parameters on education, training, and special skills. The computer correlates their results with job descriptions from the O*NETtm 3.1 database and compiles a list of careers that students can use to explore different occupations. And because all user profiles are saved to the hard disk, students can access My Careers over and over without having to re-take the assessment.

For students who already know where they are headed, View All Careers allows them to directly access data for any of the disc’s occupational listings. Each information screen contains a wealth of data—including a QuickTime® video clip for the 100 most frequently chosen jobs in the O*NETtm 3.1 database.

Every career description on the CD-ROM as well as the list of recommended occupations generated in My Careers is printable, for easy reference.
