Users are faced with a tremendous responsibility ... deciding what to be "when they grow up." For most users, their exposure to different professions is limited. No more! With the Multimedia Career Center, users can investigate a full range of professions from accountant to zoologist.
Users begin their career exploration journey by viewing a video detailing important factors to consider in making career choices. Building on this introduction, users watch video clips describing each of the twelve work areas and indicate those of interest. Next, by answering a series of on-screen questions, users develop personal profiles of their interests, abilities, work preferences, and educational plans. Using the profiles, the program determines a list of specific careers matching the users’ defined characteristics. Users can then embark upon a multimedia exploration of the sixty-six worker trait groups. Additionally, users can review characteristics of their identified careers, or any career in the Career Center database.
The colorful program menus allow users to ask professionals from each of the sixty-six worker trait groups five basic questions: "What is your job?"; "What education is required for your profession?"; "What does your job involve?"; "What did it take to get to where you currently are?"; and "How satisfied are you with your career choice?" The answers users receive, the photographs they see, and the videos they watch will reveal more about each career than could ever be gained through a traditional occupational guide book.
